Dreaming of 5th generation Toyota Prius Plug-in

When I saw the first photos of the upcoming Toyota Prius I was impressed by the looks. I was also impressed by the technical specifications. The car was shockingly good looking and relatively fast, yet economical fuel sipper.

I love my current car, Subaru Forester e-Boxer, too! It is a different purpose car than Prius is. Could I survive with a front wheel drive car as I currently have superb AWD in use?

How about cabin space? Prius is way smaller than Subaru is. I also have several years of experience with the prior 4th generation Prius. That was a noisy car, which was the main reason I traded it to the Forester.

Should I switch back to Prius now? That was the main question I had in my mind. After watching several Youtube videos of the car I became convinced. Prius is my next car, even the road noise level is still unanswered.

Some of the Youtube reviewers said the car is super silent, some of them said it still had some excessive road noise still. Our tarmac is typically super rough and it is a difficult place even for a Lexus or Mercedes S class to be silent here.

I decided to make a preorder of a yellow Toyota Prius Plug-in in April 2023. Now I’m on the final stretch. Toyota has sent me an email that Prius is ready and has been shipped to Finland. Just a long trip from Japan by a vehicle carrier and finally to my local dealership and the wait should be over.

Road noise

The road noise was my main concern with the new car. I’ve had opportunities to test drive the new Prius twice. And the road noise is not actually that bad. It is there but not as bad as the 4th generation had. The car really is silent with a good tarmac but as mentioned, in our case tarmac is typically quite rough.

Choosing the color

When purchasing a new car, buyers can choose a color. This is so difficult. Toyota used yellow color in their press material. Yellow looks actually very cool! Typically my cars have been black or dark grey, this time I decided to go the other way round and chose a different color. I think yellow is personal and fits this coupe-like shape very well. So yellow it is!

According to the dealer my new car will arrive somewhere in October 2023. I hope it will be here sooner than that. Meanwhile waiting for the new car, it is time to set up all necessary apps ready for charging straight from the day-0.
